Our Family

We have been making delicious Stilton from our creamery in the beautiful Vale of Belvoir for three generations.

Robin oversees the day-to-day running of our cheese dairy using traditional methods passed down by his father and grandfather, and we continue to produce award-winning Stilton of the very finest quality.

Our creamery plays a big part in Cropwell Bishop village life. Most of our employees live locally, and some of them have been with us for more than 30 years! That is why we trust them to maintain the highest standards of cheese craft; and why we regard them as part of the family.

Our strong family values extend to our suppliers, too. We have hand picked some of the best milk suppliers in the region: small, family-run farms whose expertise, like our own, has been passed down through generations. And in return for the exceptional milk they supply, we make sure our farmers are paid a price that they deserve.

In June 2013 we were delighted to be crowned Midlands and East Anglia Family Business of the Year. We were up against some great competition from our region, so it was a huge honour to have been shortlisted and then go on and win this award.

The legacy of the Skailes family is well and truly in the veins of the UK cheese industry, something that really resonated with us in 2016 when we were crowned overall champion at the British Cheese Awards. The trophy we brought home was the 'Matthews and Skailes Cup', donated to the Show Society by Robin's grandfather 70 years previous. To the right are Robin's boys, the next generation of the Skailes family, proudly holding their great-grandfather's cup!
